Description and Rationale: This is a Flip-chart which contains PowerPoint slides that I created to assist with facilitating instruction in a timely manner. The skills and content I used for the flip-chart were taken from Scott Foresman's My Sidewalks. The flip-chart idea came from the ARI Training I attended in December, 2010. I also created vocabulary flash cards and other materials to supplement the lessons. When appropriate, I included realia such as an authentic snake's skin to demonstrate the connection to the vocabulary word "shed".
Reflection: When I attended the ARI Training in December, I got really excited over the flip-chart idea presented at the workshop. I knew immediately that I was going to implement this strategy in my student teaching placements. This flip-chart was the first thing I created for my very first lesson of student teaching. It met my all of my expectations and was successful just as the ARI trainers said it would be. The lesson went smoothly and I was able to cover all of the content and skills within the thirty minute class period. After I created all of the flip-charts for Level A of My Sidewalks, the reading coach at Monte Sano told me she had Levels B and C flip-charts already created. We decided to share the flip-charts with each other. I gave her the Level A flip-charts that I created and she gave me Levels B and C. This turned out to be a perfect collaboration effort!
